Even Super Moms Need God’s Help

“He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.”      -Psalm 25:9

Lately, my daughter’s favorite phrase is, “all by myself.”  She insists that she can fill her cup with water, brush her teeth, and pick out her clothes—“all by myself, Mommy.”  The enormous puddles on the floor, gobs of toothpaste in the bathroom sink, and crazily mismatched outfits are all proof that my daughter cannot do everything all by herself.  Eventually, she will learn how to complete all of these things on her own, but for now, she needs my love and assistance to accomplish these simple tasks.

Just this morning, as I insisted that my daughter needed my help to pour milk on her cereal, I realized how I can be just as resistant as her to acknowledging my need for help.  Whether I’m trying to be a “supermom” or facing difficult circumstances, all too often I try to muster up the strength to complete my duties “all by myself.”  Then, just like my daughter, when things come crashing down and I find myself in a terrible mess, I become extremely frustrated.  Meanwhile, God is standing at my side, pleading for me to humble myself and ask for His help.

Whether you pride yourself on having it all together or feel like you should be on the next episode of Supernanny, you cannot be the mom God wants you to be all by yourself.  We all have things we struggle with as mothers, and God wants us to humble ourselves before Him so that he can help us and teach us His way to face the circumstances in our lives.  So ask you go through your daily tasks today, remind yourself that you are not all by yourself—God is with you, waiting for you to humble yourself and ask for His assistance.
